Somerset Sustainable Futures

The green economy is growing rapidly, and many young people are eager to pursue careers that reflect values like climate action and social justice. Employers play a vital role in harnessing this interest and energy; by engaging with young people, they can inspire innovation, support future talent, plug skills gaps, and help build resilient local communities.

If you are keen to inspire the next generation to pursue sustainability-focused roles in your industry, read on for practical ways to engage with schools and connect with young people across Somerset:

Participate in Green Careers Week: 3rd – 8th November 2025

There are many ways for employers to get involved during Green Careers Week. For instance, employers can share green apprenticeships and training routes on social media – don’t forget to tag the Somerset Education Business Partnership in any posts to boost visibility! Consider offering talks at schools or colleges about your sustainability efforts and career pathways; while many are now booked for the week, they often welcome speakers in future terms. You can also submit case studies or employee career journeys to the Green Careers Hub to showcase real-world roles in your sector. If you require support in connecting with schools, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at supportebp@somerset.gov.uk – we will be more than happy to help.

Contribute to the Somerset Sustainable Futures Website

The Somerset Sustainable Futures website connects schools, educators, businesses, and local organisations to embed sustainability into education and promote green careers. If you’d like to feature your organisation, share current projects, or highlight career pathways, simply fill out our new ‘Contact Us’ form, and a member of the team will be in touch. By contributing, you’ll reach educators and young people across Somerset and help inspire future talent.
